Walkers & Moon Boots

What are CAM Walker boots?

CAM Walker boots a.k.a. moon boots are used to provide stability for fracture injuries or unstable joints to provide support and stability. It is highly recommended that any specific or technical questions are asked to and answered by your Orthotist or qualified medical professional.

Cam boots come in a variety of different sizes (tall vs short) and features for different types of injuries and support that you require. Common injuries for moon boots include ankle sprains, toe fractures, Achilles tendinitis, foot fracture or break and more. These injuries can occur during sport or an unforeseen incident.

How do I best use the boot?

The cam boot is reusable so it is important to care for the boot to maximise your comfortability. A sock is recommended to prevent the foam liner from absorbing perspiration and the height depends on the boot being used. The sock also acts as a compression and circulation feature to reduce swelling. Wear the boot as much as possible but you are able to shower with all cam boots.

The most important feature of these boots is the air feature. The air feature helps reduce pain, swelling and potentially improve the healing time. Depending on the boot you will be able to control the amount of air flowing through the boot.

When putting on the boot, start from the toe and move up to the calf. Ensure that the straps are on firmly but you should not feel any tingling or numb sensations.

In most cases you should be able to walk freely but in some cases you may need crutches to take the pressure off your foot.
